Experience the epitome of opulence at the prestigious Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge, nestled majestically in the heart of the illustrious Ruhija sector of the park. Revered as the pinnacle of indulgence, this sanctuary boasts the most exquisite gorilla tracking trailhead in all of Bwindi.
Perched regally on Bugarama hill, the lodge commands an unrivaled position, offering a panoramic spectacle of the high altitude tropical rainforest. Prepare to be whisked away on an enchanting journey, as you feast your eyes upon the awe-inspiring southerly views of the lush forested ridges, stretching as far as the eye can see, culminating in the distant, majestic Virunga Volcanoes.
Sustainable Tourism
Whilst ecotourism has undoubtedly achieved remarkable success, it is imperative to acknowledge the existing challenges that pose a threat to the continued existence of the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Among these challenges, a tangible concern arises when it comes to the delicate balance between humans and gorillas due to our close genetic proximity. The potential transmission of viral or bacterial infections from humans to these extraordinary creatures looms as a genuine risk.
Community Involvement
The remarkable growth of tourism within this enchanting region serves as a catalyst for positive change, fostering a profound transformation in the mindset of the host communities towards conservation.
At the illustrious Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge, we proudly embody this ethos by empowering and uplifting the very communities that embrace and nurture our existence. About 95% of our esteemed staff hail from these local communities, epitomizing our commitment to inclusivity and socio-economic progress.

Best Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge Conservation Efforts & Practices
Plastic Free Lodge
In line with conservation and sustainability, we run a plastic-free lodge as we understand the effect of plastic on the environment. The major impact of plastic on the environment is that it takes many years to decompose.
Biodegradable Materials
A minority of plastics are “compostable” or “biodegradable”, which means they can be reduced to their chemical components by, say, your home compost. Other plastics can only be successfully composted by industrial or municipal facilities after first being separated from other, non-biodegradable, plastics.
Reduction of Carbon Footprint
We advocate for the reduction of carbon footprint in order to save the environment through the following strategies:
- minimal refrigeration
- solar energy use
- encourage minimal water usage
